
Opelika is the proud home base of the region’s leading medical resource, East Alabama Medical Center. Serving a five-county area in east-central Alabama, the 352-bed EAMC stands as a regional referral center equipped with more than 2,500 employees and 145 physicians on staff—establishing the hospital among the area’s largest employers.
EAMC opened its doors in 1952 with 81 beds. Over the last nearly six decades, the hospital has grown tremendously, experiencing a number of significant modernization and expansion initiatives. The hospital offers complete medical and surgical services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis in a comfortable, state-of-the-art environment. It has continually been recognized for its quality care on both the state and national level.
On average, more than 100,000 patients a year utilize the healthcare services, programs and facilities at EAMC. In addition, each year, around 320 open-heart surgeries are performed and approximately 15,000 surgical procedures are successfully conducted at the medical center.
