Intercollegiate Athletics

The University of Arkansas has a proud intercollegiate athletics legacy dating back to the late 19th century. It is an NCAA Division I-A institution and member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Arkansas also was a founding member of the original Southwest Conference, which disbanded in the early 1990s.

Today, the University fields eight men’s and 11 women’s varsity programs in a recently combined athletic program. With fantastic venues such as Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, Bud Walton Arena, John McDonnell Field, Randal Tyson Track Center, Baum Stadium, Bogle Park and so many others, Arkansas student-athletes train and compete in facilities that are widely regarded as ranking among the very best in the nation.

The Razorbacks’ success in the competition venue is substantial and stretches from the 1964 Football National Championship under legendary Coach Frank Broyles to the NCAA runner-up finish of the Razorback men’s golf team in 2009.

Fayetteville can be referred to as the “Track Capital of the World” with men’s cross country and track and field earning more than 40 national titles under the direction of former coach John McDonnell, and similar distinctions apply to the women’s cross country and track and field programs as well as men’s and women’s tennis.

The women’s golf team recently celebrated an individual National Champion in Stacy Lewis who is now a member of the LPGA tour and the Arkansas gymnastics program vaulted its way to a fifth place finish in just its seventh season of existence.

But success is not limited to the competition fields. Arkansas student-athletes continue to get it done in the classroom with numerous university, Southeastern Conference, regional and national honors including SEC Student-Athlete of the Year, Honda Award finalists, SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year finalists and winners and SEC and NCAA postgraduate scholarship award winners.

The Razorbacks are on Twitter

We are @ArkRazorbacks on Twitter. To keep up with news from the website—especially on your mobile device—follow ArkRazorbacks on Twitter. Followers of ArkRazorbacks will receive our exclusive Grunts from the World Wide Headquarters of the Razorbacks. (Did you expect the Hogs to issue tweets?)

We’ll be sending out quick links from our news to help you keep up with what’s new on the website, but that’s not all.

Each day, quick updates during events will be on the feed. It includes exclusives—score updates, event time changes and weather updates as they relate to events. For example, @ArkRazorbacks followers knew when the football team was going inside or outside and when the baseball team had an update on a rain delay.

For fans that already have a Twitter account, getting our Grunts is simple—follow ArkRazorbacks.

Check Out Our Facebook Page

The University of Arkansas Athletic Department has an official Facebook page and we want you as a friend.

Razorback fans are asked to search for the new Arkansas Razorbacks page, and can identify the official athletic department page by the well-known “Classic Razorback” displayed on the photo backdrop used by ArkansasRazorbacks.com.

Members of the Razorback marketing staff will maintain the content on the page. Expect to see special offers for certain sports and promotional announcements for upcoming events through the official Facebook page in addition to Twitter and the official home page.

There’s An App For That

The University of Arkansas Razorback Athletic Department launched its own branded iPhone and iTouch application through the Apple iTunes Store.

The “iHogs” application is free for users of the Apple products and allows Razorback fans to access the news, schedules and other information from the official athletic department website, ArkansasRazorbacks.com, directly to their Apple devices.

The application opens with a selection of all 19 Razorback sports for the most recent news from ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Fans can also click on the “Latest” button to view the current top five stories on the website.

Included in the iHogs application are links to the official Twitter feeds of the athletic department, @ArkRazorbacks, and the Razorback Foundation, @RazorFoundation. The main Twitter feed can be read directly within the iHogs application.

A media section has special video messages for fans in the initial version and will be updated with new video features as the roll-out of the application continues throughout the fall.

The Razorback Ticket Center phone number is preprogrammed in the app for fans needing to call for orders, and stadium maps for the three home venues for Arkansas—Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, War Memorial Stadium and Dallas Cowboys Stadium—are loaded into the launch version.

Among the additions planned for upcoming revisions is the addition of new Twitter feeds from Razorback coaches and staff members, along with a changeover to streamed video features. Venue maps for basketball, baseball and Olympic sports will follow later in the year.
