As a university that identifies student-centeredness as its hallmark principle, the health and wellness of students on the University of Arkansas campus is of the utmost importance. The state-of-the-art Pat Walker Health Center, opened in 2004 and fully certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, provides proactive medical and mental healthcare and adheres to the highest standards of care.
Conveniently located near the heart of campus at the corner of Maple and Garland, there are many services available for students with a variety of needs. A primary medical clinic offers a range of healthcare services provided by board-certified physicians and advanced practice nurses. On-site ancillary services include an allergy clinic, immunization clinic, travel clinic, x-ray facility, laboratory and pharmacy.
A women’s clinic offers comprehensive gynecological services with sensitivity to the unique needs of female clients. First-time gynecological exams and screenings are the specialty of all female staff at the center.
Students with mental health needs can rely on the assistance of counseling and psychological services (CAPS) professionals. The CAPS staff comprises licensed psychologists, counselors and social workers who are trained to help with problem solving, self-understanding, personal growth and other mental health issues.

Wellness initiatives are a priority as well, and programs that promote healthy lifestyle behaviors and are provided by certified health education specialists. Prevention programs – including a smoking cessation program designed to help individuals comply with the university’s new tobacco-free campus policy – are available to the campus community.
Every student pays a health fee per credit hour. This student health fee covers the cost of office visits. Additional charges may incur for diagnostic testing, certain treatments and procedures, programs and medications.
