Worship & Community Involvement

The communities of this flourishing region enjoy a spiritually diverse environment that encourages community fellowship through faith. Residents are afforded the opportunity to practice virtually any religion, as northwest Arkansas is dotted with a variety of houses of worship. Through these religious outlets, residents have access to not only regular and special services but also faith-based educational possibilities and community outreach programs, among other features.

Active residents also take part in a multitude of volunteer opportunities through a score of local civic associations, social organizations and special interest clubs. Notable agencies, such as Kiwanis, Lions Club, Rotary Club, the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America—just to name a few—have established programs throughout the community of Northwest Arkansas.

Another notable organization serving the region is the Elizabeth Richardson Center (ERC)—a community resource that came to fruition through the efforts of Dr. Wade Burnside and a group of concerned citizens who worked to establish a school for underserved children with development delays or disabilities. Since its opening in 1963, the Center has grown to become northwest Arkansas’s foremost provider of work and work training, advocacy and support for children, teens and adults with varying disabilities. Among the many programs and services offered through the ERC are the Early Intervention Program, the School-to-Work program, adult Life Skills programs, employment services through Richardson Industries and unique opportunities for recreation and leisure. In addition, ERC operates group homes and supportive living sites for adults and also offers convenient transportation services to and from the service sites.
