Student Life - Dance to Impress

Forget about dress to impress. Get up to dance and impress. That’s right, learning a few steps is as easy as one, two, three. A few dance lessons here and there will make your friends say whoa.

There are many places in Fresno that offer lessons in a variety of music. Whether you’re into hip-hop, country, swing, salsa, or even some sensual tango, local businesses offer affordable rates to gear up and dance.

For instance, Studio 65. Studio 65 is a popular dance studio located at 2965 N. Maroa Ave. in Fresno. Studio 65 teaches a full collection of dance varieties—one for each day of your weekend or week. It is known for showing the best of Argentinean tango and ballroom dances.

Dan Gross, an instructor and the owner of Studio 65, says the most popular right now is salsa. “My biggest groups of classes are salsa, swing and tango” [in respective order].

There are weekly classes you can sign up for. Prices are affordable and vary by dance. Ballroom dances, for example, are $45; you can have five-week course trainings. Visit their website for more information, if interested, at www.fresnodancestudio65.com.

Before you know it, you may even be teaching your friends. Don’t wait so long to sign up, though, as there are lists and lists of people waiting to cha-cha-cha or swing!

If you’re more into hip-hop and would like to team up with your friends for leisure, then visit Happy Hearts Dance Studio. There they offer hip-hop classes for people of all ages, and schedules are available to fit your week. Happy Hearts is located at 1177 N. Willow in Clovis.

If looking for more locations, there are many in the Fresno-Clovis area. Fresno City Guys & Dolls Dance Studio, The Dance Studio, and Fresno Stars Dance Studio are just to name a few. Studio 65 is the most recommended if looking for a variety of dance lessons in one place.

“I took a few salsa classes there, and it was pretty fun,” says Atenas Vallejo, a former student/participant of Studio 65. “I wanted to learn more just so I know. I would recommend it to my friends too.”

So what are you waiting for? Get your dancing gear and step out to dance. Prepare to dance, prepare your weekend, but, most of all, prepare your friends to dare against you in some dance moves.
