For many college students, finding a place with good food, cheap prices and a fun atmosphere is hard to come by. However, some Fresno State students have found exceptions. In the surrounding community, students have found their favorite restaurants where they go to hang out with friends, enjoy a good meal and relax without worrying about their wallets. Fresno State students have spoken, and the following three places made the top of their lists of favorite restaurants.
Casa Corona: Located at Cedar and Herndon, Casa Corona offers Fresno State students simple Mexican food at good prices. “It is close to home and isn’t expensive,” comments Natalie Ryan, a junior who frequents Casa Corona. The restaurant’s atmosphere caters to students looking to relax after a long week or for those who need a place to gather and meet with friends. “You can’t go wrong with Casa; I love everything about it,” Ryan laughs. Casa Corona is open Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Dog House Grill: A staple in the Fresno State community, Dog House Grill never seems to have a quiet day. Close to campus, on the corner of Shaw and Chestnut, Dog House offers a casual laid-back atmosphere. Students and families alike frequent the restaurant, which boasts large television screens showing several games at one time. “Dog House Grill offers sports enthusiasts a great place to hang out and eat. It is all about the atmosphere, and you don’t have to be 21 to go in there, which is really great. It caters to students who don’t fall in that age group,” sophomore Cody Jacobsen says.
Sushi ‘n’ Pop: Students at Fresno State are diverse in the foods they like and do not like. For many, sushi is a must. “Having something close to school that is different than your regular hamburger joint is super nice. Sushi ‘n’ Pop is quick and has a calm atmosphere,” junior Brie Witt says. With a wide variety and a friendly and open atmosphere, Sushi ‘n’ Pop is a unique place for students to get together and step away from the busy atmosphere of school. Sushi ‘n’ Pop is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday, noon to 11 p.m.
For many students at Fresno State, eating off campus and getting together with friends is a chance to unwind and have fun. Casa Corona, The Dog House Grill, and Sushi ‘n’ Pop all offer a getaway that is not too close to campus, but close enough to be convenient— all while offering good food at good prices.
