The Lyles College of Engineering

The technical professions of the 21st century and the people who practice these professions are more critical than ever to advancing and ensuring the health, safety and prosperity of people and society.

Engineers have been the unheralded “people behind the scenes” of technological marvels ranging from extraordinary (e.g., man on the moon) to expected (e.g., safe drinking water and sanitation) to essential (e.g., high-speed telecommunications including wireless and Internet). Construction managers have been the “people in the trenches” making sure that engineering designs are turned into reality— on-time and on-budget.

The Lyles College of Engineering at California State University, Fresno, is taking the lead in the Central Valley, the state, the nation and the world at educating the technical professionals of the 21st century. These modern-day engineers and construction managers practice professions that are grounded in science, mathematics and the laws of nature, but driven by innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit to solve the needs and problems of humanity and the world.

Students can choose from six undergraduate degree programs in the college’s three departments: Civil, Computer, Electrical, Geomatics and Mechanical Engineering (all ABET-accredited) as well as Construction Management (ACCE-accredited). The college also offers Master of Science graduate degrees in civil engineering and engineering with options in electrical and mechanical engineering (two new options in computer engineering and engineering management are in the works). Specialty areas include alternative energy, control systems, digital mapping, environment, geotechnical engineering, green/sustainable engineering, manufacturing, mechatronics, optics, photogrammetry, seismic engineering, signal processing and communications, transportation, water technology, and wireless sensor networks.

State-of-the-art facilities; personal attention from faculty who practice their professions; partnerships with industry; an Honors program with scholarships; hands-on learning; and opportunities to participate in various international, service-learning and competition projects (e.g., Engineers without Borders, ASME Human Powered Vehicle or ASCE Concrete Canoe) are hallmarks of your educational experience at the Lyles College of Engineering at Fresno State that, combined, will provide a solid foundation for the start of a successful and exciting professional career.
