K-12 Education

The availability of high-quality educational opportunities at all levels is important to residents of the Fresno-Clovis area. Fortunately, three excellent K-12 public school systems serve the community.

More than 81,000 students are enrolled through the Fresno Unified School District, which is comprised of 67 elementary schools, 18 middle schools, nine high schools and three alternative schools—making it the fourth-largest school district in the state. The district also operates the Academy for New Americans, the Fresno Adult School at the Cesar E. Chavez Adult Education Center, several Special Education programs and three Community Day Schools.

One of California’s fastest-growing public school districts, the approximately 13,000- student Central Unified School District oversees 13 elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, the CLASS Adult School, the Pathway Community Day School and the Pershing Continuation High School.

The Clovis Unified School District operates more than 40 facilities, with a total enrollment of nearly 38,000. Included in the district are 31 elementary schools, five middle schools and five high schools, along with the Center for Advanced Research & Technology (CART); Alternative Education programming; the Clovis Adult School; the Sierra Outdoor School; and Clovis Anytime Learning (CAL), an online high school program.

Residents also have the option of private and parochial education. Fresno Christian Schools is an outstanding K-12 option, while Our Lady of Victory, Sacred Heart, St. Helen, Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Anthony of Padua welcome students from kindergarten through eighth grade. San Joaquin Memorial is an exceptional institution for grades 9-12. Fresno Adventist Academy, West Fresno Performing Arts Academy, the Pilgrim Way Christian Academy and Emmanuel Learning Center are among the additional options for private and charter schools.

A great resource for students can be discovered at the Fresno County Public Library, which operates the Central Resources Library and 34 branches, plus a number of other specialized service locations throughout the area. Books, periodicals, government publications, video and audio materials make up the system’s collection, with further resources such as research databases, free computer courses, business tools, career coaching, tutoring, story times and more rounding out the list of services and programs. Additionally, as a member of the San Joaquin Valley Library System, cardholders of the Fresno County Public Library have access to materials across nine counties.
