The College Experience in High School
The Kishwaukee Education Consortium (KEC) is a partnership of area high schools and Kishwaukee College to offer the best experiences in a variety of occupational programs to area high school juniors and seniors. By holding some classes on the College campus, the students get cutting edge shops, labs and classrooms, as well as instruction from the College’s faculty and rigorous curriculum. Many KEC programs offer dual credit, so after high school graduation, the student may enroll in a continuation of the same program at the College, with many of the credits already completed.
The KEC program is an excellent example of cooperation to achieve the best possible education for students in the district. Kishwaukee College and the participating high schools broke ground in May 2007to construct a new building dedicated to the KEC programs on the College’s campus. The new KEC Building, designed by Green Associates, Architecture & Construction Services in DeKalb, will be open and ready for students in the Fall 2008 semester.
