Recreational sites dot the foundation of this area, with a number of parks encompassing ball and soccer fields, tennis courts, playground equipment, picnic areas and much more.
A wealth of beautifully-manicured golf courses and clubs, both public and private, can be found throughout the communities of this region, as can many indoor and outdoor swimming pools and facilities offering fitness centers, sports and a variety of programs for both children and adults.
Arts & Entertainment
The largest venue for entertainment in the northern Illinois area is Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center. Seating 10,000 patrons, the center is home to performances by well-known artists and a score of local concerts and events. Theatrical productions can be seen in DeKalb by the Stage Coach Players, which hails as the state’s longest-running community theater. The Egyptian Theater, listed on the Registry of Historic Places, is also located in DeKalb and provides theatrical productions and shows a variety of art, independent and foreign films.
