The region is home to a number of higher learning facilities, with Kishwaukee College and Northern Illinois University in the immediate area.
Situated in the rural setting of Malta, Illinois, Kishwaukee College is a two-year community college offering associate’s degrees in 37 areas, 67 career-related degrees and certificates, and training programs. One of 49 public community colleges in the state, Kishwaukee College provides its student base with a number of organizations such as athletics and student government.
Northern Illinois University, located in DeKalb, boasts an enrollment of more than 25,000 students and a faculty population of nearly 1,300. Standing as the second largest university in the state, the 756-acre main campus offers seven degree-granting colleges—Business, Engineering/Engineering Technology, Visual and Performing Arts, Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education and Health and Human Services.
In total, these colleges offer 54 undergraduate majors and 74 graduate programs, which includes 10 Ph.D. programs, doctoral degrees in Education and the Juris Doctorate.
