Developing Scholars Program

What is the Developing Scholars Program?
Developing Scholars Program (DSP) selects academically motivated, underrepresented, undergraduate students to work as paid research assistants for K-State faculty. The program is designed to provide academic, social, and financial support, along with cutting-edge, hands-on learning. The aim of DSP is to improve the overall experience of underrepresented students; to encourage a culture of intellectual curiosity and high academic achievement among students of color or students who are the first in their family to go to college; to increase diversity and cultural competency across campus; and to guide participants toward graduate and professional schools.

Student Family

DSP fosters mentoring and tutoring relationships among diverse students; organizes annual forums and symposiums to share research accomplishments with others; and encourages high levels of success and leadership built upon integrity throughout the students’ academic studies in order to prepare them for leadership in the global workforce. Participants are paid a stipend and may participate up to three years.

Who should apply?
• Students of color or whose parents do not have a four-year degree;
• Underrepresented freshmen with an ACT score of 21 or above;
• Underrepresented sophomores or transfer juniors with a 3.0 or above;
• Participants may major in any field offered by the university.
