Educational Supportive Services

Educational Supportive Services (ESS) is dedicated to helping students reach their full academic potential and graduate from K-State. Students who are first-generation (parents have not completed a four-year college degree), are low-income, or who have documented disabilities (physical or learning) are usually eligible for services through ESS. Apply in our office at 201 Holton Hall, near Hale Library. Students who are not eligible will be referred to other service providers on campus.

Tutoring and Skills Development
ESS offers free tutoring to help you better comprehend the content of your courses. Tutors are chosen for their academic success and trained to help you succeed as well. ESS staff can also help you develop skills in areas such as writing, math, time management, study habits, critical thinking, and the use of computer technology.

Academic Planning
ESS helps you identify your academic interests and strengths, set attainable goals, and develop a plan to reach experienced, professional staff and fellow students who are trained as peer mentors. ESS staff can help plan your semester course schedule, choose the right major, meet your graduation requirements, and get the help you need to complete your degree.

Counseling and Referrals
Adjusting to the university environment can be a challenge. ESS can help by providing personal, career, and financial counseling. Our staff members listen, understand your challenges, and care about helping you overcome them. Finding your way around a large campus can be intimidating, but we will point you in the right direction and make sure you find the resources you need to succeed.

ESS is a federally funded TRIO program administered by the Department of Education. We serve 300 eligible students per year. The mission of TRIO programs is to increase access to higher education for populations that are historically underserved. TRIO programs have been serving K-State students since 1973.
