Office of Student Life

McNair Scholars Program

K-State is known for its personal touch, and the Office of Student Life is that personal touch in action! Students can rely on the Office of Student Life for assistance with any academic or personal problem.

The Office of Student Life advocates for students on the Manhattan campus, with the goal of promoting student learning and development through services and support that enhance students’ educational experiences. Student Life helps when unexpected problems arise, to problem-solve with students, and to advocate when necessary. In addition to working with students, the Office of Student Life is a resource for parents and friends who may have concerns or questions.

Most student issues fall into two categories: academic and personal. When students are struggling academically and seek help, the office provides personalized assistance for each case. Sometimes personal and social issues such as problems related to mental and physical health, relationships, homesickness, or the transition into college, interfere with academic success. The office works closely with the student and with other campus services to find the most appropriate and effective help.

Services provided may include referral for academic and personal problems, crisis outreach, response in case of student death or injury, and help feeling supported in the university environment. Students can call, e-mail, or stop by the office at 102 Holton Hall.

Campus Safety
The Office of Student Life also administers a variety of services and programs to monitor the quality of the campus environment. Students and parents can be assured that every precaution is taken by K-State to provide a safe campus environment. Crime statistics compiled annually show K-State is among the safest universities in the Big 12. K-State is safe because faculty, students, and staff approach campus safety as a shared responsibility.

Examples of K-State campus security measures:
• Key-card swipe system in the residence halls
• Video surveillance
• Emergency phones
• Wildcat Walk safety escorts
• Emergency notification texting and voice messaging

The campus community has adopted the Principles of Community, which address the type of welcoming, safe, and inclusive community K-State strives to be. Together we make K-State what it is: A safe, supportive, and caring community where the well-being of each of us is the responsibility of all of us.
