Outdoor facilities include lighted playfields; sand volleyball courts; lighted tennis, basketball, racquetball courts; horseshoe pits; and a fitness cluster with running/walking trails. Outdoor recreational equipment, camping equipment, canoes, and kayaks can be rented at the Outdoor Rental Center.

Intramural sports are scheduled competitive activities. More than 50 different team, individual, and meet sports are offered for the K-State campus community.

A wide variety of group fitness sessions are offered, including cardio, yoga, Pilates, and aqua exercise. Personal trainers offer fitness assessments, nutrition analysis, and exercise program planning. Athletic trainers provide evaluation and treatment of sports-related injuries, including first aid and taping services.

The sport clubs program provides an opportunity to participate both competitively and noncompetitively in sports such as volleyball, soccer, rugby, paintball, skydiving, and ultimate frisbee.

The K-State challenge course consists of high and low elements designed to engage groups in educational experiences in a natural environment. Trained facilitators guide participants through a collection of elements that offer progressive activities targeting community building, healthy risk taking, personal and group awareness, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, goal-setting, leadership skills, and much more.

The department also provides many student employment opportunities for lifeguards, sports officials, building supervisors, exercise leaders, personal trainers, and office assistants.
