Nestled in the center of northeastern Kansas’ picturesque Flint Hills, Manhattan is just under 120 miles west of bustling Kansas City. This ideal location, which straddles the counties of Riley and Pottawatomie, affords commuters easy access in, out, and around the Manhattan area via several major highways and a regional airport.
The city is situated just off Interstate 70. From the west, drivers can take exit 313 and travel eight miles north on K-177 to reach Manhattan. Eastbound commuters can take exit 303 and travel six miles on K-18 into Manhattan. U.S. Highway 24 and Kansas Highways 18 and 177 are also vital thoroughfares winding throughout the area, providing quick transport to a number of regional terminuses. Truck transit, package service, and rail transportation also offer effective ground travel for area businesses.
Air service, both commercial and general aviation, is provided through Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK), located off of K-18. Great Lakes Aviation operates out of MHK, providing daily direct regional service to Kansas City International Airport and Denver International Airport, where flyers are provided connections to destinations across the globe. The airport is equipped with a modern 13,000-square-foot passenger terminal building, which, in addition to flight services, offers Hertz Rent-a-Car and Enterprise Rent-a-Car for out-of-town travelers. The fixed base operator adjoining the terminal structure is occupied by the Kansas Air Center, which provides executive air charter service to travelers in the region. d
