The University Program Council (UPC) is a student organization that plans student activities on campus.

Four committees make up UPC: African American Culture, Events, Traditions and Spirit. All University of Louisiana at Lafayette students are members of UPC and are invited to help plan some of the university’s events. With so many activities throughout the year, there are too many to list. Some of our favorite events include Welcome Week, Ragin’ Roar Pep Rallies, fashion shows, movie nights, Lagniappe Week, comedy shows, the Miss UL pageant and much more.
Students can easily find out about upcoming events and committee meeting times on the Student Union website at: http://studentunion.louisiana.edu/university-program-council/.
SPIRIT GROUPS
As a member of either the Ragin’ Jazz Dance Team or the Ragin’ Cajun Cheerleading Squads, you will have the opportunity to be an active part of college life and you will experience college athletics and events in a way most students are not able to experience.
Squad members are provided uniforms, athletic attire, dance or cheer shoes and travel bags by the university. In addition, the university covers expenses related to summer camp, most competitions and travel to away athletic events. Financial stipends of $400-$600 are awarded to each squad member at the end of the fall and spring semester. The stipend is based on the number of years on the squad and in good academic standing.

Ragin’ Jazz
Our dance team consists of 17 females and one male. The Ragin’ Jazz performs at all home football games, home men’s and women’s basketball games and some volleyball games. The dance team also attends post-season games in football and basketball, as well as conference tournaments. In addition to athletic events, the squad performs at pep rallies, orientation, fundraisers and makes appearances for university and community-based events. The Ragin’ Jazz attends UCA/UDA College Spirit camp in mid to late July and compete at the UCA/UDA College National Championships held in mid-January each year. The Ragin’ Jazz has been ranked in the top 10 in Division IA for the past four years. Practice is held two to three times per week during the semester, and practice for nationals is held during the break between the fall and spring semesters–usually five days a week.
Ragin’ Cajun Cheerleading
We have two cheer squads: All Girl and Co-Ed. Our cheerleaders cheer at all home and away football games, home men’s and women’s basketball games and volleyball games. Cheerleaders also attend post-season play in football and basketball, as well as conference tournaments. In addition to athletic events, the squad performs at pep rallies, orientations, fundraisers and makes appearances for university and community based events. It attends UCA College Spirit camp in mid to late July and, schedule permitting, compete at the UCA College National Championships. Practice is held two to three times per week during the semester.
