Student Health Services (SHS) strives to provide quality, accessible, cost sensitive, primary medical care and active health promotion to students within the campus community. SHS medical professionals include physicians, a physician assistant, a registered nurse practitioner, registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.
The clinic is located in the Saucier Building and is open during university hours of operation, Monday through Friday.
Primary Medical Care
Student Health Service offers walk-in services, as well as appointment-specific services.

This cuts down on wait times and allows for increased attention to care. All registered UL Lafayette students enrolled in six or more hours in the fall/spring semester, and those registered for three or more hours in the summer session, are eligible. Students who do not meet these requirements are able to obtain membership for a fee, which expires at the end of each semester. Student Health Services provides evaluation of illnesses, general physicals and treatment of minor injuries. Services not included are pregnancy-related visits, management of chronic medical problems, workman’s compensation cases or motor vehicle accidents. Students will be charged for services rendered, such as injections, women’s wellness visits, laboratory testing, IV therapy and other special procedures. The clinic is equipped with a small in-house pharmacy that can fill prescriptions.
Healthy Living Promotion

Teaching is the cornerstone of any educational institution and UL Lafayette is no exception. The staff of Student Health Service encourages healthy lifestyles through educational programs, individual health counseling, group presentations and an annual newsletter. One example is the monthly display located in the Student Union, which explores such subjects as the effects of smoking and alcohol, symptoms of meningitis, influenza, risks associated with sun exposure, weight/obesity, high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Insurance
Insurance coverage is available to all registered University of Louisiana at Lafayette students. The two policies offered through the university are “Basic Injury and Sickness” and “Optional Increased Coverage Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan.” For more information, please visit SHS’s website at www.louisiana.edu/Student/Health or stop by the clinic for further information.
