The Mission of the Office of Multicultural Student Services (MSS) is to support the efforts of the Student Affairs Division and to meet the diverse needs of the Missouri State student population and community. Our office operates as a support service, primarily designed to assist students from under-represented ethnic groups with their overall academic development. We serve as an advocate for issues affecting our African American, Asian American, Hispanic and Native American Students.
The MSS Office at Missouri State University is a unit within the Multicultural Programs and Student Diversity Department, housed in the Student Affairs Division, which provides an ongoing focus on the importance of a multicultural educational experience. Our office is comprised of the following components: multicultural student recruitment, multicultural student retention, multicultural education, multicultural programming and community outreach/relations.

The MSS Office prides itself in being readily available to our students, faculty, staff and the greater Springfield community. Our staff is committed to facilitating an environment where education is encouraged, progressiveness is promoted and bridges are built. As the world becomes more diverse and the term diversity takes on new meanings, our department evolves and continues to prepare our campus community for the challenges that it will face in the future.
We pay attention to details and treat our students as individuals. These things don’t happen without planning and a commitment on the part of the faculty, staff and administration. At Missouri State University, our commitment is visible–the results tangible–the future bright!
