Disability Services
The Office of Disability Services provides accommodations and support services for students so they can competitively pursue a college education, limited only by their abilities, not their disabilities. In addition, Disability Services assists campus departments in providing access to services and programs in the most integrated setting possible.
Students can easily navigate to and from Disability Services, with its location on the lower level of Memorial Union. Staff within Disability Services maintain strong, positive working relationships with faculty on campus, helping to ensure that students’ needs regarding accommodations are effectively and appropriately supported.
Blindness: Students who are blind or have significant visual limitations experience the coordinated efforts of the Office of Disability Services and the Adaptive Computing Technology Center (enlargements, brailing, electronic texts).
Deafness: Students who are deaf or hard of hearing have access to state-certified interpreters, trained captionists, transcribers and assistive technology (assistive listening devices – FM systems).
LD/ADHD: Students with learning disabilities are offered individual meetings to help them improve their study, time management, test taking and organization skills.
Mobility/Physical: Students with physical and mobility-related disabilities can receive adjustable tables, seats, back cushions and on-campus accessible transportation, as well as classroom assistants and scribes as necessary.
Psychological: Students with psychological disabilities are offered one-on-one support, as needed, to help them learn how to communicate their needs, receive accommodations and maintain balance.
Health: Students with health-related disabilities receive sensitive, caring support and guidance for those times when they are unable to participate fully in academic efforts. They also learn how best to communicate their needs to others.
