Academics are the main focus at Missouri S&T. And whether you are entering Missouri S&T as a member of the Freshman Engineering Program or as a student in one of the many sciences, computing, or liberal arts fields, you will be instructed by some of the best faculty around.
Over 99 percent of Missouri S&T faculty members hold the top degree awarded in their field, and they are trained to assist our first-year students with the adjustments required for success at the college level. To further assist first-year students, Missouri S&T provides resources outside the classroom like a counseling center, writing center and an exciting program called Learning Enhancement Across Disciplines (LEAD). LEAD provides students in the first and second year of study with additional tutoring, while they adjust from life at home to a rigorous and challenging new experience at college. All together, these resources add up to undeniable student success and a record-setting 88 percent retention rate from freshman to sophomore year.
Missouri S&T also focuses on applying the knowledge dispensed in the classroom in the laboratory. Opportunities for undergraduate research abound, giving all students the chance to apply what they know to real-world situations. With more than $52 million in research awards and grants, students are able to practice putting principles to use and to develop a working knowledge of industry advancements. Missouri S&T strives to help students be “street ready” engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs, giving them the skills and creativity necessary for a successful career.
