The Case Western Reserve University Spartans compete in NCAA Division III in 19 varsity sports and are a charter member of the University Athletic Association, which shares the belief that academic excellence and athletic excellence are equally important.

Case has personified that conviction over the past three decades with a number of All-Americans and Academic All-Americans. Since 1975, the Spartans have had more than 60 Academic All-Americans and nearly 200 NCAA All-Americans, proving that student-athletes at Case excel not only in the classroom, but in the athletic arena as well. Case student-athletes boast an average grade point average of 3.4, which is higher than the general student population at the University.

Men’s varsity sports include football, basketball, baseball, soccer, cross country, indoor and outdoor track, swimming and diving, wrestling and tennis. Women’s varsity sports include cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming and diving, indoor and outdoor track, softball and tennis.

The University features modern and up-to-date athletic facilities, all of which have recently been built or renovated. Case Field opened in August of 2005 and seats 2,400 people. It is home to Case football, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s track and field. The entire complex was built at a total cost of $126 million and has a state-of-the-art field with a surrounding track, as well as locker rooms and an impressive press box with a Presidential suite.

Just a short walk from Case Field is Nobby’s Ballpark, which is home to the Spartan baseball team. The 500-seat stadium was built in 2005 along with Case Field and is one of the finest Division III facilities in the country. The stadium includes a state-of-the-art press box. Across from Nobby’s Ballpark is the throwing area for field events and a beautiful softball facility.

On the south side of campus is the Veale Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center, which is the home of Case athletics, physical education, intramural programs and recreational activities. The Veale Center houses four multi-purpose courts (which are frequently used for activities such as basketball, tennis, soccer and volleyball), a six-lane indoor track (8 laps = 1 mile) and a multipurpose aerobics room. A cardio exercise room with treadmills, elliptical trainers, stair-step machines, rowing machines, a gravitron and stationary bikes are complemented by a newly renovated weight room. The facilities in Veale also include nine racquetball courts, two squash courts, a rock climbing wall and Horsburgh Gym (used for basketball and volleyball). Veale Natatorium and Donnell Pool complete the facility.

In addition to Veale Center, Van Horn Field (located directly outside of Veale), Adelbert Gym (adjacent to Van Horn) and Freiberger Field (located on the corner of East Boulevard and Bellflower), there are other university athletic facilities used for varsity sports, recreation, intramurals and physical education.
