Thwing Center
Thwing Center, the student union of Case Western Reserve University, is located in the heart of campus. The architectural award-winning building represents many years of proud service to Case Western Reserve University students, faculty, alumni and guests. The facility includes food services and pub, the campus bookstore, an elegant ballroom, meeting rooms, notary service, a postal substation, public computers, student and administrative offices and lounges for study and relaxation.
Thwing Center is named for Charles Franklin Thwing, President of Western Reserve University from 1890 until 1921 and a great advocate for students. The facility is a mixture of several buildings in differing architectural styles: the historic, home-like Thwing West–former Hitchcock Hall (built in 1897); Thwing East–former Thwing Hall (built in 1908) and a modern atrium joining them in 1980.
Student offices housed in Thwing Center include The Athenian (humor magazine), Case Reserve Review (literary magazine), Discussions (undergraduate research journal), Engineering and Science Review, Ignite Television Society, Media Board, The Observer (student newspaper), The Retrospect (yearbook), Rock Bottom Commuter Lounge, University Program Board and the Undergraduate Student Government.
University departments located in Thwing Center are the Center for Civic Engagement and Learning, the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, the Student Activities and Leadership Office, Thwing Center Administrative Office and University Printing Services.
The staff of Thwing Center strives to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment. The entire University community uses the facility for meetings, conferences, dinners, speakers, weddings and other special events. The staff is here to assist in scheduling, furnishings, equipment, catering information–everything needed to make your event an unqualified success.
