University Health Service
At University Health Service (UHS), our goal is to help you stay healthy and productive so you can get the most from your years at Case Western Reserve University.
Students registered for one or more credit hours are eligible to be seen at UHS, even if they have other insurance. Primary care is delivered by the staff of the General Medical Clinic and Women’s Clinic. Students can arrange a time to be seen by going on the Health Service website (and scheduling this themselves) or by phoning 216-368-4539. Same-day appointments are available for acute-care problems. Visits to a nurse, nurse practitioner or physician are all at no charge for the student during fall and spring semester (there is a summer health fee for students not enrolled in classes then). If a student needs something not offered within the Health Service itself (like labs or x-rays), they will be billed and from there may use their insurance for these costs.
UHS is staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants and registered nurses. There is a small satellite location of the Counseling Service within UHS on the second floor.
Types of services offered to students include care for acute illness, advice for travelers, routine immunizations, allergy shots, physical exams for study abroad, etc. We have a strong commitment to provide health education and information at each visit.
For students in the healthcare professions, annual tuberculin skin testing is done at no charge. They also may receive care for needlestick injuries, specialized immunizations and other occupational care as needed.
For medical or mental health emergencies after regular clinic hours or on weekends or holidays, a nurse, physician and member of the counseling staff are always available by calling 216-368-2450.
