The vibrant city of Cleveland, nestled along the shores of Lake Erie, calls northeastern Ohio home. This Midwestern region’s location is unparalleled, as it provides ample transportation options by land, rail, air and sea.
Easy accessibility to several major highways is a significant factor in Cleveland transportation, with Interstates 71, 77 and 90 intersecting in the downtown area. Additionally, Interstates 480 and 490 and State Route 2 wind around the city as well.
Public transportation options are abundant, thanks to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (RTA) presence in the city and its surrounding municipalities. Hailing as one of the largest transportation systems in the country, RTA’s network includes bus and rapid transit service comprised of 768 buses offering more than 100 routes and four rapid transit lines providing plenty of destinations to get you where you need to go. Travelers can also choose to utilize the Downtown Trolley Service to access many of the city’s top attractions and hot spots.
The Amtrak at Cleveland Station makes a number of scheduled stops for those traveling outside of the Cleveland area. The Capitol Limited route runs between Washington, D.C., and Chicago, while the Lake Shore Limited route will bring riders to Chicago, New York City or Boston.
The City of Cleveland oversees both the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and the Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport, both providing efficient air access in and out of the Cleveland area. Cleveland Hopkins International Airport services close to 12 million passengers each year through 12 airlines. Standing as the hub for Continental Airlines, the airport affords more than 320 daily nonstop flights to more than 80 destinations.
Area business utilizes the city’s locale along Lake Erie through the Port of Cleveland. The port supports northeast Ohio’s strong economy by linking local industry to markets around the world.
