First-Year Programs provides year-round new student orientations. Participation is required for all students who live within a 250-mile radius of the Johnson City campus. Special sessions for first-time traditional students, adult students, transfer students and parents and family members are designed to meet the specific needs of each group.
At Orientation, new students will meet with an academic advisor in their area of study, plan a class schedule, register for classes, become familiar with programs and services at ETSU and meet other new students. Invitations to Orientation are mailed to new students after they have been accepted for admission to ETSU. For students currently in high school, the final high school transcript must be received and reviewed prior to the orientation program.

ETSU also sponsors extended orientation programs for both traditional students under the age of 23 (PreviewETSU) and nontraditional students age 23 and older (ETSUConnect) each fall prior to the beginning of classes. These special programs are designed to assist students with their transition to ETSU and to build their awareness of ETSU’s resources. The programs are fun and relaxing and help students get off to a successful start at ETSU.
