Fraternity & Sorority Life

Fraternity & Sorority Life

Involvement in a fraternity or sorority will provide students with a foundation for academic achievement and help them prepare for a more productive personal, social and professional life.

Becoming a member of a Greek-letter organization is a lifelong commitment that only begins in college. When students join a recognized fraternity or sorority, they become part of an organization that will unite them with their brothers or sisters on campus and throughout the U.S., in common bonds and mutual beliefs.

The priority of the fraternity and sorority community is the scholarship and academic well-being of active and new members alike. Many academic resources are available in the Greek Life community. Fraternities and sororities also provide academic scholarships and other financial incentives to members, and recruit faculty, staff and alumni/alumnae mentors for academic guidance.

From monetary donations to more than 15,000 hours of hands-on community service, the ETSU Greek community prides itself on the charitable work it performs for Johnson City/Washington County, surrounding areas and the nation. Last year, Greeks participated in fund raisers that raised more than $50,000 for organizations including the American Cancer Society, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Sullivan County, the Ronald McDonald House and Speedway Children’s Charities.

More than 50 percent of the Greek community membership is involved in other student activities and organizations on campus. Many hold leadership positions in these organizations, which include Student Government Association, Volunteer ETSU and intramural sports, among others.

Greek Life organizations often organize weekend retreats, alumni gatherings and other opportunities to build friendships and camaraderie among its members. Membership in a fraternity or sorority is a great way to become involved at ETSU and to create lifelong friendships.
