East Tennessean

The East Tennessean newspaper is a primary source of news and information for the ETSU community. Published twice weekly—on Monday and Thursday—the student-run newspaper can be found on news racks in ETSU’s academic and administrative buildings. The newspaper’s primary focus is covering campus-related news, sports, features, entertainment and events, and opinion. In addition to providing consistent information, the East Tennessean offers an invaluable forum for students, faculty and staff to share their views on its editorial/ opinion pages. Through “Letters to the Editor,” individuals have an opportunity to initiate discussions about various ideas, issues and concerns.

The East Tennessean is produced by a student staff, from all fields and interests, who are hired to write and edit stories, take photos, sell and design ads, design and lay out the paper, operate the Web site and deliver the print edition. Students learn about the profession and gain hands-on, real-life experience working at a twice-weekly newspaper. They produce a portfolio of published articles, photos, ads and designs that nicely complement their résumés. In addition, working at the paper helps students hone skills, such as meeting deadlines and communicating verbally and in writing, which are attractive to employers in a variety of fields.

The East Tennessean also offers advertising services that give businesses and organizations an opportunity to share their information about goods, services and programs with the campus community.
