Neighboring Communities

Bristol is a charming city set against the backdrop of the beautiful Appalachian foothills. Here, one can spend a day outside at Steele Creek Park, South Holston Lake or the Cherokee National Forest, or take some time to peruse through the boutique shops and restaurants of the historic downtown. Bristol, regarded as the Birthplace of Country Music, is also packed with cultural outlets, from Theatre Bristol and the Bristol Paramount Center for the Arts—home to Bristol’s Theater Group—to prime events such as the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion. The community even houses one of the finest NASCAR venues around at the Bristol Motor Speedway, and one cannot forget about the majestic caverns that are brimming with historical significance.

ELIZABETHTON

Sharing a border with Johnson City is Elizabethton, a peaceful community of approximately 14,000 residents. Like the surrounding area, Elizabethton is proud of its storied past, which can be seen through several historic sites. The Doe River Covered Bridge, Carter Mansion and Downtown Historic District are fantastic destinations for history buffs, as is the Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area. Throughout the year, residents and visitors take pleasure in many exciting events in the community, including Covered Bridge Days and Slagle’s Pasture Bluegrass Festival in spring, the Fine Arts Show in July and several holiday celebrations that culminate the year.

JONESBOROUGH

Jonesborough

Known as Tennessee’s Oldest Town, Jonesborough is a community filled with history, earning a distinctive destination designation from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In addition to this recognition, historic Jonesborough has been recognized among one of America’s Most Charming Towns & Villages; one of the 23 Top Mountain Towns by Pinnacle Living Magazine; and was listed in the National Geographic Guide to Small Town Escapes. In the summertime, Wetlands Water Park is a favorite among families and the community-wide events are highly anticipated. Jonesborough Days and Music on the Square are great for family time, as is the renowned National Storytelling Festival, produced by the International Storytelling Center—the world’s only center committed solely to the ancient art of storytelling. Plus, guests enjoy the year-round offerings of the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre.

KINGSPORT

Home to nearly 45,000 residents, Kingsport is a wonderful community to relocate or visit. It has been named as one of the Top Ten Cities in which to Walk by Walking Magazine and, along with the rest of the Tri-Cities, was recognized as one of the Best Places to Live in the U.S. for golfers by Golf Digest Magazine. Take a step back in time at the Allandale Mansion, the Exchange Place living history farm and the historic Netherland Inn, which was built between 1802 and 1808. The 3,500-acre Bays Mountain Park is one of the largest city parks in the U.S. and also hosts a state-of-the-art planetarium. Warriors’ Path State Park is one of the most popular outdoor sites in Tennessee, and Crockett Ridge Golf Course and Cattails at MeadowView are always bustling with golfers ready to hit the links. Opportunities for shopping abound as well, with the Kingsport Town Center, Traders Village Mall, the Kingsport Farmer’s Market and several shopping centers offering an assortment of products and services.
