The Texas State Aquarium encompasses several fascinating exhibits comprised of thousands of animals representing more than 300 species. The facility also offers fun educational programming and special events throughout the year. The city’s popular Cultural Center at Heritage Park is nationally recognized for its multitude of cultural programs in promotion of Corpus Christi and southern Texas’ great diversity. Also showcasing the region’s culture and artistic mix are the Art Center of Corpus Christi, the Art Museum of South Texas, the South Texas Institute for the Arts and the Rockport Center for the Arts.
If the performing arts are your thing, check out the Harbor Playhouse for quality theatrical productions, as well as the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra, the Corpus Christi Symphony, the Corpus Christi Ballet and the Corpus Christi Concert Ballet. First-rate venues for prime entertainment in the area include the Concrete Street Amphitheatre, American Bank Center and the Performing Arts Center at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Corpus Christi is the proud home of the Central Hockey League’s Corpus Christi Ice Rayz, the Texas League’s Corpus Christi Hooks baseball team (affiliates of the Houston Astros), football’s indoor arena Sharks, and the intense Football League’s Corpus Christi Hammerheads. With the presence of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders and other local colleges and universities, the action never stops. Show your support by attending a number of different sporting events, from basketball, baseball and football games to volleyball, softball and tennis.
Visitors can also choose to spend the day outdoors at the peaceful Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens, encompassing a beautiful collection of gardens featuring walking trails; 2,500 varieties of orchids, desert and tropical flowers; and much more. Take a stroll over to the Corpus Christi Municipal Marina, located on the bay and the city’s main focal point; observe hundreds of birding sites along the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail; or ride out to the delightful Padre Island National Seashore.
