Corpus Christi’s location on the water affords it an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities. Residents and visitors alike have access to four pristine beach areas, offering plenty of activities including swimming, fishing, water skiing, picnicking and, of course, relaxing under the sun.

If you’ve always enjoyed a trip to the beach, this is the place for you. There are city beaches such as McGee Beach and North Beach along Corpus Christi Bay. Just a short drive will take you to Padre Island Beach along the Gulf of Mexico and the Padre Island National Seashore National Park just 20 miles from downtown. A city beach is also located directly across from the University.

The National Windsurfing and Kiteboarding Championships are also held each year in Corpus Christi. There are several parks to enjoy, with Cole Park downtown right on Corpus Christi Bay. The park has an outdoor amphitheater with a variety of regular performances. There are also more than 200 pocket parks located in neighborhoods throughout the city, along with a number of swimming pools, gymnasiums, recreation centers, senior centers, tennis courts and much more. Outdoor enthusiasts take advantage of the hiking and biking opportunities along the Corpus Christi Bay Trail, while golfers delight in the city’s handful of well-manicured courses located in and around the city. For the skateboarding community, spending a day at the Corpus Christi Skate Park, located on the shores of the Corpus Christi Bay in Cole Park, is a must.

Avid bird watchers revel in the “Birdiest City” in the nation — a distinction given to Corpus Christi in 2003 and 2004. More than 500 species have been documented in the area, which includes the endangered whooping cranes.

Follow the city’s professional sports teams with Corpus Christi Hooks baseball at Whataburger Ice Field or Corpus Christi Rayz hockey. The American Bank Center and Concrete Street Amphitheater host indoor and outdoor concerts and Sharks indoor football arena events throughout the year.

With the temperate weather, golf is available year round at both public and private courses. Events and activities for runners and bicyclists also occur year round.
